Every day is warmer and warmer as summer approaches. It is sometimes difficult for us to adjust to heat and temperature changes. It is important to remember that our vehicles will have to adapt too. Now is the time to prepare your vehicle for the summer. good start to prepare your vehicle for the summer is to check and maintain your antifreeze and coolant levels in your radiator. You can do it yourself or take it to your Automotive Expertise to be done. the best deal and service should be offered. Learn simple and correct way of doing themselves.
The most common cause of car breakdowns due to the failure of the coolant system. If you plan on servicing your cooling itself there are some things to check first.
Check the label on a bottle of coolant. It must be the correct type of coolant for your vehicle. Read the radiator of your vehicle's manual.
The use of 50/50 percent antifreeze and water.
coolant or antifreeze performs two critical functions:
1 It keeps the radiator fluid from freezing in winter.
2nd It keeps the engine from overheating in summer.
Coolant is composed of 50 percent ethylene glycol and 50 percent water, which helps raise the boiling point and lower freezing point. Corrosion inhibitors protect vital metal cooling system from corrosion, lubrication and seals silicates.
If you have to add coolant May there be a leak. Are your vehicle to check the coolant leak. more heat engine is one of the worst problems for your vehicle. This will save you more money to have it rather then examine the risk of over heating. Your personal mechanic should be able to check this out for you at little to no cost. The service may be required after inspection.
The radiator is a heat exchanger used to transfer heat from one medium to another for the purpose of cooling and heating.
radiator or coolant reservoir has an overflow of coolant from the radiator. This is also where you should fill the cooling system. It is usually white tank mounted under the hood on the passenger side. If the radiator fluid does not become low then, it will begin to drain from the tank and back into the radiator. It is therefore important to keep the reservoir fluids checked too.
Do-It-Yourself Check the radiator coolant and maintenance
First things first: WARNING! You must make sure your engine is cool. Your engine is hot and so I have a fluid with the heat also causes the pressure. You can get badly burned. Let your car sit for awhile.
Check to see how hot it is before you start anything.
O Put your hand on the upper radiator hose to make sure that it is not hot. It should be cool.
O Squeeze the hose or hold it to see if there is any pressure on him what so ever. If the pressure in it then, the coolant will spill out everywhere, even to you. Blistery kinds of burns. Radiator hose should be cool.
O you can not touch the radiator cap. You can feel the pressure or heat. It should be cool. There is a warning label on your radiator cap as well.
Once you know that everything is cool ... Twist the radiator cap and remove it. You can use gloves or a paper towel to remove the cover. Press and begin to reverse (left-handed loosy). Listen and feel for pressure.
Then you look at the fluid level. liquid should be right on top. If the fluid is at the top then your fluid is fine. You can simply put the cap back on, push down and twist (righty tumble). Pay attention to the commas and tabs that are on the cap, and they line up with corresponding notches and tabs at the top of the refrigerator. Make sure the lid is locked in place. It is very important because, when the fluid gets hot the pressure will build, pop the top off the radiator, and you'll have a MESS.
another safety precaution: If you do not spill any antifreeze on the ground or anywhere, check and clean it up well. This is very harmful and deadly to pets. Animals will also try and drink. It tastes real yummy and sweet to them. Do not let that happen, or you might just be cryin.
If the fluid level is low, but not right on top, then just use the correct fluid and top it off.
O Remember, your liquid should be 50/50 percent antifreeze and water.
about some of antifreeze on the market but it will be 50/50 pre-diluted and ready for use. With this type of antifreeze you can just poor it right on the radiator or the radiator tank.
O There is a coolant that is not diluted. You have to mix this ourselves and use the correct ratio of water coolant. Instructions will be on the back. Use distilled water because tap water can build up mineral deposits in your cooling system.
A Tip: If you mix a ratio of cooling water, mix it in a special container outside and away from the vehicle. Once you get your proper mixture, then add it to your radiator or radiator tank.
to fill the radiator reservoir:
O Unscrew the lid on top and white container.
O Pour the liquid until you see the liquid level rise between the minimum and maximum lines on the side of the tank.
Check the radiator hoses: There are two hoses checked. One connects to the top of the radiator and one at the bottom.
O Visually check the hoses.
Check the terminal to shell of the radiator to the engine are secure and no leaks.
o Check that the tube itself is not cracked.
o If your radiator hose cracked or there is any leaks: hose clamps, or will have to be replaced by
.
Is there a way to do-it-yourself. You can fix or at least maintain your car yourself and save yourself a lot of money.
