Everyday, I do custom body modifications for the cars because I work in the auto body shop. There was one day when I need to pull out of the Limo Ford Taurus. There are many types of modifications, what we do, including one of the most common ones, shaving the door handles.
What exactly do you do when you're shaving your car door handles? Shave your door handles mean that you eliminate your exterior door handles and then fill the space to create a smooth appearance. If you do it the right way, then the result will last a long time. However, if you do it incorrectly, it will come back to haunt you in no time.
When you shave your door handles, start by removing the inner door panel. Details may be different for each car, but will definitely include removing screws and clips. In special cases, you will need to use a special tool to remove hidden screws and clips. They are usually attached to the door handle or window crank handles.
After removing the inner panel, raise the window completely so that you are able to get inside to the inside front door handle. When this, you will need a flashlight and a thin pair of hands. Most exterior door handles in cars are attached to the screws which can be accessed only from within. You have to separate all the rods that are attached to the handle, so it will not interfere with anything inside the door.
Remove any parts that may interfere with the movements in the interior including door lock key cylinder. This will put a second additional key remote popper unit will be useless. Some people choose the cheaper way of changing the door handle rod and attach it to the door lock cylinder. With this schedule, you can now use your key to activate the door latch lock instead.
Whichever method you choose, the full shave or remove the option for lunch and cylinder, you will have at least one full day of work. If you want to endure the result, then you should use a metal and weld in some metal patches before. If you can not do it, then you should go to someone who can. This rule will apply, though, if the car has a fiberglass body.
Then you need to grind up the metal around the area, removal of paint and roughing up the area. You can buy products that are available in spray cans and applied to metal products. Products protects metal from rust and fire during welding. Once you have the metal patches applied, it is time to fill in an area that has ground and cleaned. Fiberglass and sand using plastic body filler in a thin layer when you want to do more design. You must do it again and again until you are sure that no more air bubbles trapped in the filler.
Once it's all done, then you should apply a quality primer on the repair area. You can use 220 grit sandpaper to make sure that the wick is smooth. When you are finished with this step, then the next thing is to apply the last primer on the surrounding area and sand with 320 or 400 grit sand paper. Remember not to leave your car in a textbook for a long time, since May catches rust. Color him immediately.
The image is a very delicate thing, sothat if color never before ,you'll need to get a professional to do it for you . Ask a painter you hired too if the repair is good enough to paint. If the answer is no, then ask your artist if he can do the final prep work and how much it costs.
After the shaving is done, now you need to buy a remote Popper kit and install it in your car, so you can get in. kits typically include complete instructions, but if you are in good supply, you might want to pay an expert to do it. Since Popper is an electronic and gets its power from the mains, you need to install the cable manually activated and leads to a hidden spot that only you know that just in case the battery goes out.
Now that you understand all the steps, it is time to decide whether to shave the door handles or decide that it does not fit after all.
